History

It has been the New Zealand's capital since 1865, when it took over the title from Auckland.
It is a large and busy harbour and an industrial place, situated on the northern island, on the straits of Cook. The harbour is the outlet of the local industry, whose produces (meat, wool) are shipped toward Australia and Europe.
Built in a very beautiful site (Port Nicholson bay), Wellington is a resort city as well as an academic and cultural (symphonic orchestra, ballet, opera, museums) place. The Pamir made ten voyages from Wellington under New-Zealand flag between 1942 and 1948.

Founded in 1840 by British immigrants, the city was named after the Duke of Wellington and hosts 340.000 inhabitants.
